Varsity boys basketball

The team be harrison 67-22. Leading scores were Dayne Ivey with 14, Garrett Zehr 10 and Thaddeus Nashatka 8 points and 15 rebounds.

JV boys basketball

The team beat Harrison 67-14. Leading score was Danny Dubay with 39.

Financial Aid

The Rosa Parks Scholarship

The Rosa Parks Scholarship is a $2500 Scholarship open to all High School Seniors. Apply online at rosaparksscholarship.org Deadline is March 1, 2024.

Josh Jasman Scholarship

Three $3000 awards. Must be a Bay County Senior. Awards are not based on GPA or need, but on answers to informal questions. A minimum 2.0 GPA is required. Applications are available in the Counseling Office, deadline is April 15, 2024.

Rowdy Ruff

Rowdy Ruff will be held on February 13th. Sign up sheets are on the board outside the athletic office. Deadline to sign up is February 2

Winter Blood Drive

The Winter Blood Drive sponsored by Student Council will take place on Tuesday, March 5 in the school library. Students who are 16 years or older are eligible to donate. 16 year old donors must have a signed permission slip every time they donate. Interested students should see Mr. Stoneback in room #131 to sign-up for a time to donate.

Peer Mentors Run

There will be a Peer Mentor meeting this Thursday February 1st at 7:20 in Mrs. Morand's room. Please come with your ideas for Yellow Ribbon week. If you cannot make it, email Mrs. Morand or Mrs. Yanoski.

Auditions for Spring Musical

Auditions for the spring musical Mean Girls will be held this Friday, February 2 and next Wednesday, February 7th from 3 to 5 in the band room. Audition sheets will be available beginning tomorrow morning in the library and must be completed at your time of audition

Bowling

The girls bowling team tied Meridian 15 to 15 on Monday evening. High games were bowled by Cassidy Whyte 153, Taylor Bauer 152, and Layla St. Peter 151 The boys bowling team fell to Meridian 25-5 for their first loss of the season. High games were bowled by Logan Milliman 187, Jacob Stoneback 185, and Griffin Morin 169.

Varsity Boy Basketball 1/23/24

The boys varsity basketball team defeated Roscommon 51-50. Leading scores: Cole Brady 13, Dayne IVey 11, Braden Slowinski 9, Garrett Zehr hit the game winner as time ran out. Andrew Wilson and Dayne both had 6 rebounds.

Coming Home Dance January 22-26th

The Coming Home Dance will take place on Saturday from 7-10pm in the high school gymnasium. Tickets cost $10 per person and will only be sold at the door to the dance. The dance theme is "Superheroes and Villains." Students are encouraged to dress to match the theme. New this year: The concession stand will be open for refreshments, so please bring money for food. Doors to the dance will open at 7:00pm sharp, so please do not arrive early. Food, beverages, and personal bags will not be allowed in the gymnasium, so please plan accordingly. Students planning on bringing a non-PHS guest to the dance must complete the Google Form that was emailed to your student emails earlier this month. Middle school students and guests over the age of 20 will not be admitted to the dance.

Penny wars Monday, January 22

Congratulations to the sophomore class who were leading the penny war at the end of the day on Friday. They have been awarded the $20 bonus. The current penny war standings are as follows: 4th Place: Juniors with negative $30.54 3rd Place: Freshmen with negative $20.40 2nd Place: Seniors with negative $7.75 1st Place: Sophomores with positive $28.32

JV Basketball Monday, January 22

The JV boys basketball team defeated Meridian last night by the score of 50 to 47. Leading scores were Ryan Kowalkzyk with 12, Danny Dubay 9 and Sean Donahue 6 The varsity boys basketball team lost to Meridian by the score of 45 to 60. Cole Brady led with 12 points Brady Lupcke had 10 and Garrett Zehr had a double double with 10 points 10 rebounds.

Floats 1/21 through 1/23

Freshmen float building will take place Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 3:00 - 4:30 in Mrs. Nowicki's room. Junior Class we will be working on our Float for the Coming Home Competition Tuesday January 23rd, and Wednesday January 24th from 3:00 pm-4:30 pm in Mr. Thomas Room 109. Senior Class Float Building will take place Tuesday and Wednesday after school in Mr. Stoneback's classroom from 3:00-4:15pm. All seniors are invited and encouraged to attend.

Pinconning Education Association Scholarship 1/19 thru 1/26

Must be a Pinconning High School senior, plan to be a full-time student at a 2- or 4- year accredited Michigan College, have attended Pinconning Schools during grades 6-12, and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher. Applications are available in the Counseling Office, or for download on the Counseling Office website. Deadline is March 1, 2024.

Penny War Standings 1/18/24

The penny war standings are as follows: 4th Place: Juniors with negative $2.50 3rd Place: Freshmen with negative $2.05 2nd Place: Seniors with positive 16 cents 1st Place: Sophomores with positive 17 cents Penny jars are located in the library. Remember, pennies help your class, silver and dollars sabotage the other classes. The class leading after school on Friday will receive a $20 bonus. The penny war ends with the final bell next Thursday.

Reminder: All students taking a 21F class and dual enrollment classes

If you are on school grounds and taking a 21f class or dual enrollment classes you are to report to the library during your scheduled 21f class time. Mrs. Gary will take attendance and the expectation is that you stay in the library for the entirety of that designated class period. If you need to leave, Mrs. Gary will give you a hall pass and you are to go to your destination and return in a reasonable time. Students that are wandering the school or not where they are supposed to be will be subject to disciplinary action.

Float Building and Coming Dress-Up (end 1/19/24)

Senior Class Float Building will take place from 3:00-6:00pm on Friday in Mr. Stoneback's room. All seniors are invited and encouraged to attend. Coming Home is next week! Monday's dress-up theme is "Pajama Day." Students wearing their PJs will earn spirit points for their class. Check out the other dress-up themes on posters throughout the hallways.

JV basketball team

The JV basketball team defeated Gladwin 57-40. Leading scorers Sean Donahue 18 and Jaxon Hill 16. The varsity basketball team beat Gladwin 51-41. Leading scorers Brady Lupcke 18 Garrett Zehr 15, Braden Slowinski 8, Garrett and Dayne both had 7 boards.

Freshman boys basketball

Freshman boys basketball lost to Gladwin last night 32-20. Leading scorers were Landin Bargeron with 11 points and Owen Murry with 6 points. We lost 20-32

Boys varsity basketball

The boys varsity basketball team defeated Whittemore Prescott last night by the score of 64-25. Leading scores were Brady Lupcke 16, Garrett Zehr 12 and Dayne Ivey 11.

Coming Home Penny War

*Coming Home Penny War Starts today and ends on Thursday, January 25 at 2:50pm. Students are encouraged to donate pennies into their own jar. Donate silver or dollars into the other classes' jars to sabotage them. Rolled coins of any type are worth double. Jars are located in the library. Attention Seniors The Mayors Scholarship Is now out

Multiple scholarships available. Scholarships range from $200.00 to $1,000.00. Applicants must be a senior and plan to attend a college or university full time in the fall of 2024. Applicants must also reside in the Pinconning Area School District, but do not need to attend Pinconning High School. Applications are available in the Counseling Office. Deadline is March 15, 2024.

Junior Class Prom

Junior Class will be meeting Thursday January 11th, 2024 at 11:30 am in Mr. Thomas room 109 to discuss Prom.

Bay Area Thunder

Bay Area Thunder Celebrated their six seniors Friday night with an 8-2 victory over Royal Oak Bishop Foley. Seniors, Gage Burgeson , Tate Becker, and Jake Engelberts, all collected points on the evening with senior Wyatt Burgeson leading the way with a hat trick. John Glenn Junior, Trent Phillips had two goals and an assist and Preston Pudvan had three points on the evening with one goal two assists.

The Bay Area Thunder

Traveled to Tawas Saturday for their forth, Mid-Michigan hockey conference game of the season. The game ended in a 3-3 tie. Pinconning Freshman Jake Rau started the scoring and Garber Senior Tate Becker collected two more goals on the evening. The Thunder are now 2-1-1 in conference play.

Mid-season individual bowling tournament

Mid-season individual bowling tournament took place on Saturday at Northern Lanes in Midland. Layla St. Peter led the girls’ team, placing 8th overall [out of 48 bowlers] while throwing a high game of 159. Kassidy Whyte placed 17th with a 145 high game. Lexi Drouse placed 18th with a 157 high game. Griffin Morin led the boys’ team, placing 18th overall [out of 46 bowlers] while throwing a high game of 198. Jacob Stoneback placed 20th with a 181 high game. Logan Milliman placed 29th with a 211 high game.

Pinconning Youth Wrestling Club

Is looking for volunteers for their tournaments on January 20th-21st, 2024. Time slots are 8:30 am-12:30 pm, and 12:30 pm-4:30 pm both days. If interested please see Mr. Thomas in room 109 for details.

Varsity boys bowling team

Won their match 29-1 against Farwell. Led by Jacob Stoneback with a [194], Griffin Morin [186], Logan Milliman [179], and Ethan Miller [174]. Dylan Krevinghaus bowled four strikes during the Baker Games to help lead the team to victory. The boys' team now sits alone in 2nd place in the conference.

Varsity Girls bowling team

Won their match against Farwell 22 -8. Lexi Drouse bowled a [177] with Layla St. Peter with a [170]. Last night, the girls' bowling team defeated Farwell 22-8. The team was led by Lexi Drouse [177], Layla St. Peter [170], and Nina Schott [152].

Student Council Meeting

Mandatory meeting TOMORROW, January 5th at 7:10 am in Mr. Stoneback's classroom. We will be choosing Coming Home Committees, so please make every effort to attend!

Nathan Weidner Scholarship

All applicants must be a 2024 or earlier graduate of a Bay County High school, or live in Bay County, have a GPA of 2.0 or higher, plan to be a full time student at Delta College. Preference is giving to student not receiving the Pell Grant. Applications are available online, see the Counseling Office website for the link, deadline is February 1, 2024.

Attendance Appeals

To fill out the attendance appeals go to the Pinconning Middle/High School webpage and under the upcoming school year section click “Attendance Appeal”. Fill out the form and it will get to Mr. Woodruff to review. If you do not fill out the form you will not be eligible for attendance forgiveness.

Robotics Team

The Robotics Team will meet or the first time this year on January 8th right after school in the classroom of the shop building. Anyone interested in joining the team is welcome to attend

Volunteer Opportunity

For any high School Guys or girls interested in earning volunteer hours, Pinconning Community Clothing Center is looking for volunteers to assist with their Bridal Show Extravaganza (Bridal Fashion Show) on Sunday, January 21. PHS guest to the Coming Home Dance. Any PHS student wishing to bring a non-PHS guest to the Coming Home Dance on Saturday, January 27, 2024, must complete the Google Form Guest Pass that was emailed to your school email account.
